Thoughts and remembrances by George Harrison's family,
friends and collegues  after his passing.
OLIVIA HARRISON:  "He often said, 'Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait and love one another.'  He left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends."

DHANI HARRISON:  "We're truly grateful for the tremendous support we've received from friends and from the very many members of the public whom we don't know personally, but who thought of us and send us good wishes."

RINGO STARR:  "George was a best friend of mine.  I loved him very much and I I will miss him greatly. We will miss George for his sense of love, his sense of music and his sense of laughter."

PAUL MCCARTNEY:  "He was a lovely guy and a very brave man with a heart of gold and had a wonderful sense of humour.  He is really just my baby brother.  I remember all the beautiful times we had together and I'd like to remember him like that because I know he would like to be remembered like that.  I'll always remember that without George it all wouldn't have been possible.  He was a great guy, full of love for humanity, but he didn't suffer fools gladly.  He's a great man."

YOKO ONO LENNON:  "George has given so much to us in his lifetime and he continues to do so even after his passing with his music, his wit and his wisdom.  His life was magical, and we all felt we had shared a little bit of it by knowing him.  Thank you, George.  It was grand knowing you."

LOUISE HARRISON:  "He had the view that his spirit had his body on loan."

RAVI SHANKAR:  "It was my sitar and Indian music which connected me to George in the beginning, but very soon our relationship went beyond that.  He was a friend, disciple and son to me.  George was a brave and beautiful soul, full of love, childlike humour and a deep spirituality.  We spent the day before (he died) with him, and even then he looked so peaceful, surrounded by love.  (My wife) Sukanya, (daughter) Anoushka and I are deeply affected by this loss, and our love and prayers are with Olivia and Dhani.  George has left so many precious moments and memories in all our lives which will remain with us forever."

ERIC IDLE:  "He died as he lived, with dignity, with bravery and with comedy.  He inspired all the lives he touched.  He was a truly blessed man, loved by his family, his friends and strangers all around the world.  I loved him from the first moment I met him and I shall miss his eyes, his laughter, his honesty, and his wonderful guitar playing.  The world has lost a very fine man, but we are all the richer for his life."

MICHAEL PALIN:  "Death held no terrors for George whatsoever, and he still got a lot out of life.  I found the humour was there right up to the last time I saw him."

JOOLS HOLLAND:  "We've lost one of the most important figures of popular music, but most importantly, one of the kindest, most generous and funny people  that I have ever met.  It's absolutely no surprise at all to discover that his last thoughts were 'Let's all just try to love one another'."

PAUL SIMON:  "He wrote some of the greatest Beatles songs, but more than that, he had a gentleness and spirituality that made spending time with him a great pleasure.  I have been dreading this loss, and I will really miss him."

MICK JAGGER:  "I am very saddened by George's death and will miss him enormously.  As a guitarist, he invented many classic lines that were copied by others, and he wrote several very beautiful songs that we will always remember.  He was a very complex character, both quiet and funny with a very sweet nature, but he also could be rather combative at times.  He was the first musician I knew who developed a truly spiritual side, and he was generous with his time to both charity and to friends."

KEITH RICHARDS:  "To me - George was, always will be, above all, a real gentleman, in the full meaning of the word.  We both felt we held similar positions in our respective bands, which formed a special, knowing bond between us.  Let's hope he's jamming with John."

ROGER DALTREY:  "To me, he was the spiritual centre of The Beatles who kept them grounded and never had the recognition he deserved within the band."

DAVID CROSBY:  "I'm not sure if it was me that did it but there are people that tell me I turned George on to Indian music.  He was the most friendly (of The Beatles) to me and the nicest."

BOB GELDOFF:  "He wasn't a reluctant Beatle.  He knew that his place in popular culture was secure. As he said himself, 'How do you compare with the genius of Paul and John?'  But he did, very well."

MICHAEL JACKSON:  "The world has lost a great spirit in George Harrison:  a great musician, songwriter and friend.  He was an inspiration to me and I will miss him a great deal."

MIA FARROW:  George Harrison was not only a musical force in my lifetime, but a spiritual force.  One of the things that was so inspiring was his lifelong search to know his God.  And if God exists, I don't doubt that George has a place near him."

PATTIE BOYD:  "I' am just so, so  sad.  Of course, we've been expecting it, but when it actually happens it is still a great shock and I am terribly upset.  I just loved him so much.  George has always been such an important person for me.  He was my first love as well as my first husband and I loved him until he died.  He was the most loving and kindest person."

JEFF LYNNE:  "I feel blessed to have been so close to him.  He wrote brilliantly original songs, played the greatest slide guitar and had the most amazing sense of humour.  He really had the 'inner light' and always will.  Some of the happiest days of my life were spent in the studio with George."

PETER MAX:  "One time we were talking about gurus, mantras, where is God.  George said, 'I'd give up everything if I could be a monk who walks from one side of India to another."

PETE BEST:  "I am absolutely stunned.  It is a tragic loss of  a life, a tragic loss of a great musician."

ALISTAIR TAYLOR:  "He made more of a mark in his quiet way than the others were ever willing to admit and I don't believe they could have done it without him."

BILLY PRESTON:  "George has been like an open door for me throughout my career.  I knew him before, during and after (The Beatles), and he was basically the same guy: a rock and roller who loved playing music.  He was also really sincere and dedicated to his search for God.  You could see the joy he was feeling and how he wanted to share it with everybody.  He was truly enlightened."

TERRY GILLIAM:  "One of the most extraordinary things he did in the last years of his life was plant 400 or 500 maples in his garden.  He was one of the great gardeners of the world.  I think his true spirit was there.  He had 37 acres to play with!  He created an incedibly beautiful place with a Russian dacha and huge arches made out of the roots of trees.  In the last couple of years, he started putting in these gigantic lumps of stone.  It was truly a magical place.  You thought life was worth living when you went over there."

STEVE WINWOOD:  "He was a bit of a practical joker.  The first time my wife and I went over to his house he had photographs of the Queen and Prince Phillip inscribed, 'To George, from Liz and Phil.'  And my wife, who is American, said, 'Fantastic.  Did they sign it for you?'  He answered, 'No, I wrote it.' He had that down-to-earth Liverpudlian wit."

LEON RUSSELL:  "George's quiet modesty and generosity belied an inner strength of character not often found in the halls of wealth and fame.  He had the heart of a true minstrel, and his songs will echo through all time."

JULIAN LENNON:  "It is a sad day for all of us, I loved George very much.  He was the kindest of men.  Our time together, though little, was always memorable.  He was a man to be inspired by and he certainly touched my heart and millions of others.  George always offered  sound advice and was very encouraging.  He will be missed, but I believe that after all the pain he has endured, he is finally at peace.  My heart goes out to Olivia and Dhani, but I know that George is still with them in spirit and will be guarding them every day of their lives until they meet again.  George you are beautiful.  Luv Ya Always, Julian x "

CYNTHIA LENNON:  "This is a very sad day for myself and everyone who knew and loved George.  He was part of my teenage years, he was part of my marriage to John, in fact, a very important part of my life.  He was part of my family."

NEIL ASPINALL:  "This is a very sad day for Apple and for all Beatles fans worldwide.  It was my privilege to have been a friend of such a very special man - he will be greatly missed by us all."

BOB DYLAN:  "He was a giant, he was like the sun, the flowers and the moon.  He was a lovely man and it was my privilege to call him my friend.  He will be sorely missed by a world already lacking craftsmen."

GERRY MARSDEN:  "George was a nice guy and a gentleman.  A great musician has gone to heaven.  He was a very talented person who was never given the chance to be out in front.  Having said that, he was the type of guy who would prefer to let others take the limelight."

JAMES BROWN:  "George was one of the world's few good men, one of the better people I have ever met."

DENNY LAINE:  "It was an uncanny feeling .... George was a very special person.  I know you all loved him, I loved him.  God Bless You George."

TOM JONES:  "George was truly an inspiration to every one of us in the business as well as all those millions of fans all over the world."

BONO (U2]:  "There was a certain mysterious and unknowable quality about his music which made him a very attractive figure.  It gave a whole other dimension to the Beatles."
